Join LUCSUS and Lund University in a discussion about the global sustainable development goals.

17 global sustainable development goals - set to achieve three things by 2030. To end extreme poverty, inequality and climate change. Raise your voice and be part of the discussion of how we together can create a sustainable future when Lund University organises a Global Goals Cafe during Sustainability Week at the City Hall in Lund on 15th May.

The global development goals will be discussed at 17 tables. Each discussion will be led by Lund University researchers and experts from the Lund Chapter of UNA Sweden, Individuell människohjälp, Lund municipality and Region Skåne and others - with knowledge in the areas of water, economic growth, sustainability, gender studies and climate research.

- We want as many people as possible to attend! It's a unique opportunity to learn more and contribute. Everyone's knowledge and ideas are needed if we are to meet the sustainable development goals in 2030, not just researchers and experts’, says Vasna Ramasar, from Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies, and one of the chairs of the event.

According to her it is critical that the global sustainable development goals are discussed as a single package.

- The global sustainable development goals affect each other – we cannot meet the goal to eradicate poverty if we are not also meeting the goal of clean water and sanitation, reduced inequality and quality education. Today, the goal for climate action is of special importance in the light of the changed political realities in many parts of the world and the way climate change affects all aspects of life on earth.

The Global Goals Café concept is about facilitating discussions in such a way that everyone’s voice is heard, and that the participants can move among the tables. The event is held on the very first day of Sustainability Week.

- We see the discussion about how we can meet the global development goals as setting the tone for the whole programme of events since the week is about creating arenas to meet across organisational and societal borders, and provide a space for creativity and new ideas, says Jenny Hansson, project manager for Sustainability Week.

- That is why we have put together a programme which highlights that we all have a role to play in meeting the existing challenges, to create a sustainable society.

The Global Goals Cafe runs on 15th May from 16.00 – 18.00 in the City Hall. The event is free and open to the public. No registration is needed. It is organised by Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies, Lund University Sustainability Forum and Lund Chapter of UNA Sweden.

Sustainability Week, which runs from 15th – 20th May, is part of the Lund University 350th Jubilee and one of five science weeks during the jubilee year.
