How to make Globalization work for
Sustainable Development ?

GLOBIS is an international research consortium born for elaborating a theoretical foundation for reconciling globalisation, development and sustainable development.

Strengthened by the broad expertise-spectrum offered by the consortium participants », and combining a theoretical analysis » with a series of case studies », GLOBIS has the ambition to go beyond the state-of-the-art understanding of the synergies and conflicts linking the three global processes.

GLOBIS is ongoing project, started in September 2009, the progresses will be available on this webpage.

GLOBIS will serve to inform European policy processes, promoting the European Union’s ambition to become one of the world’s key actors in the pathway towards sustainability.

The collaborative project is funded by the EU Framework Programme 7 (Theme 6: Rethinking globalisation in the light of sustainable development) and run for four years starting from 2009 .

Policy assessment framework tool - a proto-type

During the second project period, GLOBIS created the first prototype of a web-based presentation of a number of governance initiatives: the Global Climate Investment Initiative and Environmental Fiscal Reforms. The aim of this policy assessment framework is to make succinct summaries of important governance instruments and present both opportunities and challenges. We have decided to use the web-based presentation tool Prezi. The final, fully functional version will be available for public access by the end of Summer, 2013.

The proto-type presentation is available here:

Landgrabbing – What is it, why is it happening, and what are the effects?

A lunch seminar at the Swedish Parliament, 14 June 2012.

International trade in agricultural land (land grabbing) was the theme of a seminar organised at the Swedish Parliament for parliamentarians and other stakeholders on the topic of land-grabbing. Parliamentarians, journalists, and targeted individuals and institutions were invited to the seminar. About 100 stakeholders participated. In conjunction and with inputs from GLOBIS, there was an open seminar arranged by a Swedish NGO engaged in the issue. The report developed for the seminar was in Swedish in order to better reach the targeted stakeholders.
