Guidelines and principles for improved city-citizen cooperation for climate change adaptation

LUCSUS researchers present new guidelines and principles on how to improve climate change adaptation collaboration between, and for, citizens and municipalities.

Municipalities and their residents are facing increasing challenges as a result of a changing climate. Floods, heat waves and storms are expected to increase in number and strength, while sea level rise and erosion threaten local communities and landscapes. This affects municipalities in different ways and increases the demands on their ability to collaborate with other actors on climate change adaptation, including citizens with widely differing needs, capacity and views.

In the research project "Sustainable change for climate adaptation in cities", LUCSUS researchers Christine Wamsler and Ebba Brink have examined how cities and citizens contribute to climate change adaptation, how they cooperate, and what this means for achieving sustianable climate change adaptation.

The project work is presented in form of research articles and various policy documents (in English and Swedish) with tools and principles for climate change adaptation available for both municipalities and citizens.
