The Lund University Pufendorf IAS Resourcification Theme welcomes you to join the release of The Lund 2020 Resourcification Manifesto!

In times of major global environmental change, the pressure to identify and exploit more and new resources is likely to intensify. But things do not turn into resources by themselves, nor are they turned into resources randomly. To analyze how this happens, we launch the concept of resourcification to theoretically, empirically, and politically scrutinize how, why, when, where, by whom and for whom things are turned into resources.

Resourcification involves not only natural, human, and capital resources, but also symbolic, digital, and systemic resources. It is not synonymous to commodification, economization or marketization, although each of these can be part of it. Rather, it intends to go beyond the observation that common-pool resources are increasingly privatized, enclosed and exploited for commercial purposes. It seeks to clarify why such development occurs, how it happens, who gets to lose or benefit from it, and what the consequences are. As such, resourcification aims to be a critical platform for identifying, describing and explaining interactions between humans, other living organisms, and the natural environment.
