 fessor of Global Sustainability Governance with the Copernicus Institute o
 f Sustainable Development at Utrecht University\, The Netherlands. He is a
 n internationally leading scholar in the domain of organisation of global 
 institutions and organisations\, for which he was awarded the Volvo Enviro
 nmental Prize in 2024. He pioneered the ‘earth system’ governance para
 digm in global change research in 2005 and was the founder and first chair
  (2008-2018) of the Earth System Governance (ESG) Project\, a leading glob
 al transdisciplinary research network of over 600 sustainability scholars.
 &nbsp\;For 10 years (2009-18)\, the ESG project was hosted and coordinated
  by LUCSUS. During this period\, the project developed into the world’s 
 leading network for social science research on global environmental proble
 ms. During this time\, LUCSUS also co-organised (with the Department of Po
 litical Science) two of the international ESG Conferences\, in 2012 and 20
