PhD Seminar: Jonas Allesson (final seminar)
Doctoral students at LUCSUS hold three seminars during their studies: a first-year seminar, a mid-seminar, and a final seminar. Participation in seminars is essential for doctoral students to achieve their learning outcomes. The seminars are always in English.
Jonas Allesson is a PhD student in the project “Burying Problems? Imaginaries of Carbon Capture and Storage in Scandinavia”. He studies different and conflicting visions of a future adoption of negative emissions technologies in Scandinavia, and how such visions affect and are affected by culture, politics, and market forces. He is particularly interested in understanding which imaginaries of the future are nurtured and institutionalised, which visions are rejected, and how that process relates to underlying political-economic drivers. Justice aspects of energy transitions are a central part of this – who gets to participate in choosing our common future?
He is also interested in science fiction portrayals of humanity's response to the climate crisis, and how art and literature can serve as inspiration for finding radical solutions to the ecological crisis.
