Urban Governance and Transformation

The world is undergoing the largest wave of urban growth in history. More than half of the world’s population now lives in towns and cities. This development will bring major social, economic and environmental transformations. LUCSUS research aims to develop constructive actions and policies to move towards more sustainable and equitable urban futures.

At LUCSUS, we explore challenges and opportunities associated with increasing urbanization in different geographical regions and cities. We study topics such as urban governance, adaptation, extreme weather and risk reduction.

Collaboration and knowledge sharing with stakeholders and policy makers at different levels are vital to develop strategies for sustainable urban development.
