Operationalizing a sustainability transition in tropical forests
Deforestation is a critical issue for both people and the planet. This event aims to provide new insights into deforestation and highlight the role of international regulations in developing deforestation-free supply chains. Collaboration across sectors is essential to effectively reduce deforestation and promote sustainable livelihoods in tropical forest regions.
The event will highlight recent global developments, such as international forest and biodiversity commitments, as well as the newly adopted EU deforestation law on trade with forest risk commodities. The programme will also include discussions on regional, national and local developments and capacity to enable a sustainable and equitable transition in tropical forest regions. The Amazon will be the main tropical region in focus, but speakers and panellists will also share developments and lessons learned from other regions.
This open event, organised by researchers from the Focali network, is open to anyone interested in promoting a transition to sustainability in tropical forests. The event will feature insights from recent research and collaborative work, as well as a panel discussion with actors from different sectors working in tropical forest regions. Discussions will focus on ways forward and how to improve collaboration to tackle deforestation and biodiversity loss while promoting sustainable livelihoods.
In-person participation is encouraged for this event, but a hybrid option will be available for those unable to travel to Lund. Join us for an informative and engaging discussion on deforestation and the path to a sustainable future for tropical forests.
The Amazon will be the main tropical region in focus however speakers and panellists will share developments and lessons from other regions as well, stay tuned for the final program!
