Abhishek Reddy Kandadi

What is your background?
I have a background in textile studies and technology and then did a year of business studies with sustainability and that’s how i ended up in the LUMES programme in Sweden. 

Why did you choose the LUMES programme?
I loved researching on sustainability and various aspects of it and I kept working on it. I bumped into the LUMES master programme due to LUMES alumni.

What academic and personal skills have you gained?
Many academic skills thanks to the different ways of teaching in Lund University. Self conducted seminars coupled with lectures equipped me with so much knowledge on varied aspects of sustainability. I also got better at planning for stuff way ahead also, group works gave me skills to work in a team environment 

How would you describe the courses and the study environment?
The programme is intense, haha! But I enjoyed it and it is less intense than working in the field for sure. The courses are perfectly planned to fit it into everyone’s background. Always had a positive study environment.

What advice would you give students starting the programme?
I would advice everyone to hang tight and enjoy the programme. Make friends and get some amazing fika. Be prepared for what’s coming – you are exposed to a different world!

What is your thesis about?
My thesis is about an ecosystem in the outer Hebrides in Scotland I am exploring it through Ostrom’s SESF framework and how commons can be adapted to socio-ecological changes.

What sustainability issue do you care mostly about?
Agriculture and food production as my family comes from farming background.
