Combines critical perspectives and problem-solving approaches - in collabaration with society
The research at LUCSUS focuses on complex sustainability challenges. It takes an inter- and transdisciplinary approach and combines critical perspectives with problem-solving approaches.

LUCSUS' researchers are working on topics sucs as climate and land use change, the politics of water, energy and forestry, and on development and urban governance, resilience and adaptation. We are unique in the way that we use common approaches, methodologies and tools of assessment to better understand the environment-development linkages. We focus on the perspective of justice, rights and development, and policy in relation to integrating social and natural sciences.

The research is characterised by:

  • An integration of natural and social science
  • A collaboration with scholars from different disciplines and faculties both from Sweden and other countries
  • An active participation by stakeholders such as small-holder farmers, policy makers at different levels, and non-governmental organisations
