About DevRes 2024
Growing polarization in the world is hampering our efforts and ability to collectively reach the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The ongoing war in both Ukraine and Gaza is leading to shifting power balances and changed political priorities for many countries, with international development cooperation increasingly being sidelined.
Current wars in combination with the aftermath of the pandemic are also impacting the global economy, hitting countries in the Global South particularly hard. In addition, accelerating climate change and biodiversity loss pose challenges for individuals and policy makers alike, calling for a green transition and new solutions for energy, transport and food. This transition risks exploiting already vulnerable natural resource areas and groups of people and creates conflicts of interest where different values and goals are set against each other, not least in relation to international development cooperation.
Swedish research with a focus on least developed countries and lower middle-income countries has in this respect a direct and important function to fulfill. By using interdisciplinary methods and approaches researchers can identify, investigate and describe how these tensions and conflicts of objectives affect an equitable global sustainable development.
DevRes in Lund 2024 aims to bring together Swedish affiliated researchers working in fields linked to development and sustainability to discuss these challenges but also highlight how research directly contributes towards reaching Agenda 2030.
