– The research project is very timely. Wide-spread impacts and losses from hazards, such as floods, heat waves, drought and landslides have triggered a new focus on DDR to support societal resilience, Christine Wamsler says.
She notes that the increasing understanding of the need to address the underlying root causes of these hazards, their impacts and losses, has led to increasing calls for strengthening the coherence between DRR, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development. It has also prompted international efforts, such as the Sendai Framework for DRR, to promote such coherence across related strategies at national and local levels.
Accordingly, the new research project aims to support the Swedish government in their efforts to implement the international Sendai Framework and, more specifically, its global goal aimed at developing and implementing national and local strategies for DRR and resilience. The specific project aim is to provide knowledge and recommendations for related decision-making processes in Sweden.
